Elected by the Board of Directors on Sept. 6, 2011
Doctor of Medicine. Diploma in legal compensation for personal injury and medical expertise. International Certificate in Human Ecology, Paris V Descartes Faculty of Medicine.
Risk, Quality and Sustainable Environment Unit - MRSH - CNRS University of Caen
1st Vice President URPS ML Haute Normandie (Union Régionale des Professions de Santé Médecins Libéraux). President of the URPS H.N Health/Environment Commission Expert in environmental health for the URPS, he sits on a number of official commissions, including the Seine Maritime CODERST (Conseil Départemental de l'Environnement et des Risques Sanitaires et Technologiques).
His underlying motivation:
As a self-employed general practitioner with an agricultural background, I quickly became aware of the link between health and the environment. The growing number of serious pathologies, such as cancer, infertility or hypofertility, neonatal malformations, allergies and neurodegenerative diseases, prompted me to quote Heraclitus (450 BC): "Man's state of health is a reflection of the earth's state of health". We have to admit that the standards put in place to protect the world's population over the past 70 years have been ineffective. True prevention therefore requires a real assessment of products before they are put on the market, with the aim of putting health before profits.

Special educator supervising the Emmaüs community in Les Essarts (Vendée) and director of Eaux & Rivières de Bretagne
Why I'm dedicated to environmental protection:
I was born in a pretty village in Galicia (north-western Spain) in the late 50s, and one day my father said to me about the spring that feeds our house: "Leave your son the same quality of water as I'm leaving you!" My entire environmental battle stems from this imperative towards future generations. Fighting for unpolluted water is essential for our health and that of our children.
Today, however, pesticide contamination of rivers has become a health and environmental problem of catastrophic proportions. I therefore devoted myself to this task, getting involved in several local associations in western France, before joining Eau et Rivières de Bretagne, where I was a director for 8 years, including 2 years as vice-president. I am now co-responsible for E&RB's Health, Pesticides and Environment Commission.
Informing our fellow citizens and elected politicians are the two paths I've taken to advance the fight against these toxic and deadly pesticides. Water is the common thread, the mirror and the witness to our behavior. Fighting against agricultural GMOs means fighting, among other things, against river pollution, which is why I wanted to get involved with CRIIGEN, which is also heavily involved in environmental health issues.

Nicolas Defarge
Doctor of Molecular Biology
I'm a molecular biologist currently working on tomato genetics and breeding at the Facultad de Ciencias Agronomicas de Zavalla (Universidad Nacional de Rosario-CONICET) in Argentina. I trained in plant molecular biology and began transforming plants using Gene Gun and Agrobacterium at the turn of the century. I then focused on risk assessment, and later on the environmental risk assessment of GMOs (or LMOs* in the COP formulation) and their associated pesticides. I published around twenty peer-reviewed articles in international impact journals on these subjects. I was an expert invited by the Swiss Academy of Sciences to participate in an evaluation report on LMOs. In addition to having attended and/or been an invited speaker at several events concerning LMO assessment and synthetic biology in general, I attended the last COP15 in Montreal, as a research fellow, and the recent open online forum on synthetic biology. My expertise is in cell and molecular biology, as well as in statistics. My favorite models are human cell lines, rats and predatory insects.
* LMOs: Modified Living Organisms are living beings (plants, animals, micro-organisms) whose genetic heritage has been modified by human intervention (genetic manipulation, modification of the number of chromosomes, heat shock, artificial selection, etc.). LMOs obtained by genetic engineering are known as genetically modified organisms (GMOs).
Robin MESNAGE
Doctor in molecular biology and bioinformatician
Dr. Robin Mesnage is a toxicologist at King's College London. After completing his doctoral thesis at the University of Caen Normandie, he moved to London to set up a research program on pesticide toxicology in the Department of Molecular Genetics at King's College London. Since 2018, he has also been working as a scientific consultant to support companies in carrying out biomedical research, in particular for expert appraisals on pesticide toxicity.
Training
Doctor in molecular biology. Bioinformatician.
Specialties
Toxicology, Bioinformatics.
Toxicology: Toxicology tests are carried out to assess the toxicity of chemicals, in order to determine exposure values that are safe for humans or the environment. I carry out scientific research to improve these tests and discover the toxicity of chemicals that contaminate our food, such as pesticides.
Bioinformatics: Bioinformatics is a specialty that uses and designs computer tools to apply them to the biological and medical sciences. For example, I use "big data" technologies to predict the long-term effects of pesticides on human health.
